Books Make Great Gifts!
Let’s face it: books make fantastic gifts. Books can be thoughtful, thought-provoking, and / or funny. With a few exceptions, books are always the right size and the right color (mammoth tomes like John Fielder’s Colorado 1870-2000 or Andrew Zuckerman’s Bird come to mind).
Gifting a book to a friend or loved one really means you care! In our opinion, anyway, as many Goodly team members are avid readers and book collectors. With so many themes, topics and subjects, books are their own form of escapism, or a way to learn something new. Sometimes both!
Let’s take a look at a few of Goodly’s best books and why they’re so amazing.
Wine For Normal People
This lovely book is a great gift idea for wine lovers, whether they “just like wine” or are practically sommeliers. Wine has a long and complicated history and it’s always evolving, so an educational wine book is a useful tool to help make sense of it all! With lots of images and fun prose, this cool book offers instruction on the basics of wine, like regions and wine making, as well as wine tasting and how to read a wine label. It’s a great gift idea for birthdays, graduations and even as a housewarming gift (paired with a lovely beaujolais, of course)!
Crap Dates
Sometimes, you just gotta laugh. This collection of terrible date experiences, all curated from Twitter and told in less than 140 characters, is a funny, perhaps eye-opening experience that’s guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone who’s had a bad date. Since that’s pretty much all of us, this small-but-hilarious book is an ideal gift for just about everyone you know! Funny books make the best gifts, in the Goodly team’s opinion!
I Could Chew On This
Following in the funny theme, this book of poems written by dogs is a bit more family friendly, but no less hilarious. Dog lovers will adore this funny illustrated poetry book, which is loaded with titles like "I Dropped a Ball" and "Can You Smell That?” We love the color photographs of the dog poets and think this colorful book is a perfect anytime or just-because gift!
Things To Do Before a Monday
Sometimes, even the most audacious life could use a little inspiration. For the rest of us, though, this funny adventure book will come in rather handy. It offers 52 prompts (that’s a year’s worth!) of new things to try on your weekends that range from fun and silly to self improvement. You'll find suggestions like “write a short story in a coffee shop” and “build a pillow fort” and more. While it’s a wonderful gift idea, we think you might consider keeping this one for yourself! Or maybe buy two?
Campfire Stories
This unique adventure book is full of family-friendly stories to be told around a campfire, but we think it will be equally at home around a fireplace or even a dinner table! We love the range of tales in this exciting book, including daring feats and epic journeys about everyone from John Muir to Alex Honnold and Cheryl Strayed. It’s an ideal gift for outdoorsy types as well as armchair adventurers!
Blank Journals and Notebooks
It’s been said that if you don’t like what you’re reading, maybe it’s time to write your own book. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to write the great American novel, or anything that’s the length of the unabridged version of The Stand (which is, by the way, a whopping 471,485 words). You don’t even have to write fiction! A blank book can be used for journaling, organizing your thoughts and your day, even doodling. It’s blank - do whatever you want!
A side note: carrying multiple books around can sometimes necessitate a fun, happy tote bag to carry them in. You might consider the Books Make Me Happy tote.
We’ve got even more fun, unique books to choose from, so make sure to take a look. Remember, books make excellent gifts, particularly if that gift is for yourself. Happy reading!
