the sock drawer donates 251 pairs to rita’s rainbows
The sock fairies are proud to announce a new donation to a wonderful local nonprofit organization, Rita’s Rainbows! This fantastic group has been collecting socks through donation drives for years, and this year we are thrilled to hook them up with 251 new pairs of fun novelty socks, worth $2,150!
Rita’s Rainbows, a group committed to helping local kids and teens in need, collects socks for an event called Sera’s Sock Day. The socks will be distributed to agencies in our hometown of San Luis Obispo that serve children, in honor of Sera Day Coryell.
Sera lived here in SLO and was studying to be a nurse practitioner when she passed away in August 2011. She often wore crazy knee high socks. We hope our donation will be a colorful reflection of the joyful, generous spirits of both Sera and Rita’s Rainbows.
You can learn more about Rita’s Rainbows and their sock drive here. If you’re planning to place an order on our website soon, we encourage you to consider purchasing an extra pair or two to donate to this drive or another in your area.
A Commitment to Giving Back
Here at The Sock Drawer, we make regular donations of socks, gift cards and money to local and national organizations with causes close to our hearts. These include schools, mental health groups, homeless shelters and kids’ programs such as 4-H. We have donated a portion of our sales to Girls Inc. and California wildfire relief efforts, and we happily hit the lanes in crazy costumes every year for the Transitions Mental Health Association bowl-a-thon fundraisers!
Charitable giving is at the core of who we are. Just as we believe you can spread joy from one person to the next by rocking a fun sock pattern, we also believe that generosity begets generosity. Please help us spread ripples of positivity through your own community by considering sock donations.
Many nonprofit groups in the U.S. report that socks are one of the most-needed but least-donated items. Health regulations prevent many groups from accepting used socks, so new, clean pairs are in high demand. If you want to help, check out the following organizations dedicated to collecting socks:
Or use a resource such as ShelterListings.org to find homeless services centers in your own area that are likely to take sock donations. Thank you for your generosity!
