our fire relief donation total: nearly $3,000
Thank you to everyone who contributed!
Weeks after the deadliest fires in California history, we at The Sock Drawer want to take a moment to thank all you generous folks out there who donated to relief efforts. Whether you purchased socks during our donation drive or contributed your time, money or efforts elsewhere, we are forever grateful.
From Oct. 12 to 31, we had a donation drive. We’re proud to announce that we’re cutting a check for nearly $3,000 to the North Bay Fire Relief fund. That’s thanks to your generosity!
We also sent hundreds of pairs of socks and truckloads of donations from our own team members of clothing, water and other goods north to the wonderful local nonprofit organization Friends in Sonoma Helping.
“You will be happy to know that hundreds of feet and thousands of toes are being kept warm by your generous donations of hundreds of pairs of new socks,” the group wrote in a letter to The Sock Drawer. “On behalf of the many people who have warm feet and new clothing, thank you for your incredible generosity.”
We have heard that some relief groups are running out of room for all the goods that have been donated, and we are simply overwhelmed with gratitude by the response. Seeing people near and far come together to aid Californians in need has been truly inspiring!
The wildfires in Northern California destroyed at least 8,900 structures and killed 43 people, according to officials. More than 100,000 people evacuated during the blazes, which are estimated to have caused more than $1 billion in damage.
The region affected by the devastating fires is close to the hearts of Sock Drawer owner Brooke English and many others on our team. We are happy to have done our small part and thankful for all of you out there who helped.
Of course, there is more to be done as thousands of families work to rebuild their businesses, homes and lives. Please consider donating to one of the following groups:
The Sacramento Bee also has a comprehensive list of ways to help.
Thank you to all who have contributed so far, and cheers to those who continue the effort!
