5 reasons bamboo socks rock
We’re so excited to introduce a new collection of awesome socks: They’re made from bamboo! Yep, the panda’s favorite food can also be made into fibers that create some really amazing socks. Some are solid-color and some have fabulous and crazy patterns, and we love them all so much that the sock fairies can’t seem to pick a favorite! Instead, let’s talk about why bamboo socks are so amazing!
1) they're extremely comfortable and soft
Bamboo fibers are naturally round and smooth, without any sharp “spurs” to irritate the skin. On some fabrics, such as some wools, these teeny-tiny spurs can make for itchy material. But bamboo fiber doesn’t roll like that. That means bamboo socks are even softer than cotton and feel luxurious next to your skin. We’ve even got roll-top socks for women! These cute socks are less restrictive across the tops than other socks with a cuff and are perfect for ladies with larger calves.
2) they're colorfast
“Colorfast” refers to dyed colors that will not fade or wash out. And bamboo fibers fit this bill perfectly! That’s because bamboo fibers absorb natural dyes even better than cotton, while requiring less dye in the first place. Just look at those fun moth socks above to see what we mean: Bamboo shows colors better than other materials. They’ll also stay vibrant even after repeated washings!
3) they're more durable
That naturally smooth and round appearance of bamboo fibers also means that bamboo material is less likely to fray and get damaged as a result of wear and washing. Bamboo socks will be wearable much longer than those made of cotton or synthetic fibers, assuming your cats don't turn them into toys!
4) they're anti-microbial and odor-fighting
Bamboo fibers absorb more water than cotton, thanks to tiny gaps within the fibers, and they also naturally wick moisture away from the skin. This wicking ability means that bamboo material is odor-resistant, as bacteria requires a moist environment in order to grow. Dry feet are happy and stink-free feet!
5) bamboo is an environmentally sustainable material
Bamboo plants grow with a deep and complex root system, and that has several benefits. First, bamboo requires less water than many other crop plants. Bamboo fields rarely need to be irrigated and actually grow best in dry, nutrient-poor soils. Their root system helps bamboo plants to grow as much as 36” in height … in a single day! Even better, bamboo will regenerate after being harvested, so it doesn’t need to be re-planted from seeds each year. Although the process of turning bamboo into fiber does come with some environmental downsides, we’re pleased to see the sustainable material itself being used in more goods. Especially comfy socks!
